Gum Diseases
Gum diseases are the general name for inflammatory diseases that occur in the gums and dental tissues. It is one of the main causes of tooth loss. Early diagnosis and treatment is the only solution for gum diseases. Although gum diseases are very diverse, one of the first symptoms is bleeding in the gums. As the bacteria nestled in the dental tissues multiply, they cause inflammation in the gums and bleeding begins in the advanced stage. This formation can occur within an average of 2 weeks. There are many reasons identified among the causes of gum diseases. Genetics (coming from the family), habitual smoking, stress-related diseases, poor nutrition and vitamin deficiencies, wrong toothbrush selection, hormonal disorders occurring during pregnancy, incorrectly applied dentures, diabetes and similar serious diseases, as well as heavy medication use can also cause gum diseases. As mentioned above, diseases that occur in the gums vary depending on the cause. Among the types of gum diseases, we can list disease types such as Gingivitis, Chronic periodontitis, Aggressive periodontitis, Periodontitis seen with systemic diseases, Necrotic periodontal diseases and Gum abscess and periodontal abscesses. Although some of these types of diseases include advanced gum disease, all of them can be treated.
Gum Disease Treatment
Caring for gums, which consist of soft tissues, is the first step in oral and dental health. Inflamed gums are the harbingers of many diseases. Bacteria that stick to the gums damage that area in a short time and various gum diseases occur. Gum diseases begin with the damage to the dental tissues and cause redness, bleeding and swelling in the gums. The main reason for all of these is the acids and toxins formed in the dental tissues. Gum disease treatment is planned according to the damage and the patient's mouth and tooth structure. It is applied individually. It is not possible to apply the same treatment to every patient. The purpose of gum disease treatment, also known as periodontal treatment, is to treat diseases caused by problems in the gums. The first stage of treatment is to clean the tartar and bacteria formed on dental plaques. Simple measures such as regular tooth brushing, flossing and tartar cleaning constitute the first step of treatment. If the jaw bones between the teeth and gums have melted due to inflammation, bone formation treatment is applied to this area. Bone grafting performed under local anesthesia is an effective method that can treat this problem. In advanced gum diseases, surgical intervention is necessary. The gums are cut, the area is cleaned and purified from bacteria, and if necessary, biomaterials are applied to complete the treatment. After 2 weeks, the stitches in the gums are removed and the patient regains healthy gums. Of course, a dental check-up is required every 6 months after this stage. Otherwise, gum diseases may recur.
